Easter Upcycles
Bunnies and chicks everywhere!

These were fun upcycles. I found a hen and chicks from a local charity shop and several other bisqueware (clay fired) ceramics at a local ceramic shop. I used Krylon Fusion All-In-One Paint-Primer in Gloss Espresso. I tried chalk paint first, but just wasn’t getting the chocolate look I wanted even after applying wax. I thought the Espresso might be took dark or too glossy, but it ended up being perfect.

These started life as bisqueware from a local ceramics shop. It’s easier to start from scratch, but also a bit more expensive. The hen and chicks above were thrifted for $5. I did have to use stripper to get the paint off and even then, it wasn’t exactly pristine. The bisqueware version was $15, so that was a small win. You can see from the image, I have one more egg (on the left) to paint. I haven’t quite decided how just yet, so that one is still a WIP (work in progress).

This was another thrifted item (I think I paid $1 for this one). This one wasn’t bisqueware, but was some type of chalky material. It was easy to sand and smooth out the flaws, but you had to be careful not to over-do it. I added some Rub-N-Buff to the eggs once the piece was dry.
I think these look like the real thing, don’t you? I’ll have to warn the hubby. He requires that since biting into that fake apple.
